Peugeot 206

By any standards the 206 is a great looking car which ever variant you choose. The standard hatchback is the most popular, the station wagon or estate car (SW) is the most practical, the GTi is the most sporty and if you enjoy feeling the wind in your hair the coupe cabriolet the most fun.

Now that this car has given way to its successor the Peugeot 207 you can find some very good buys when looking for a cheap peugeot 206. Used Peugeot 206 models can often be found at bargain prices and there are a number of low mileage examples around.

As well as deciding on the body style, there are a large number of alternative engine options which range from the very frugal to the reasonably high performance. It really is a matter of deciding what you will use the car for, and choosing an engine that is appropriate to that purpose. For instance if you just want a car for getting around town, then you ca probably get away with the entry level 1.1 litre petrol engine. If you want a little more power, then the 1.4 litre petrol engine will give you 75 bhp (95 bhp on post 2003 cars) and the 1.6 litre petrol engine 103 bhp.

There are also so diesel engine models and the best of these are the HDi engines which are available at 1.4 litres and 1.6 litres. The 1.4 litre is the most economical option with a fuel economy of 64 mpg and the 1.6 though less economical develops 110 bhp. It has a reasonable amount of torque, great for getting away at the lights and winding through the gaps in the traffic. There is also a 2.0 litre HDi but this is not as powerful as the 1.6 litre. The engine to really avoid is the noisy and somewhat cumbersome 70 bhp 1.9 D; if you ever see a Peugeot 206 belching out black smoke, you can be fairly certain that it is a 1.9 D.

Overall the Peugeot 206 is an excellent used car and it pays to shop around to find the one that is most appropriate for you.
